Introduction
Shinako Takatsukasa was born on February 29, 1820, and died on December 31, 1858. She was the primary consort of Hachisuka Nariyuki, the 13th lord of Tokushima Domain in Awa Province (present-day Tokushima Prefecture). Her court rank was Shōun-in.
Regarding her birth, her father was Fujiwara-no-Takatsukasa Masamichi, an Imperial Regent (Kampaku), and her mother was a court lady (housewife). Takatsukasa Masamichi was a Japanese court noble and politician, holding a high position in the imperial court. Because her father was a Kampaku, Shinako Takatsukasa's background was from a noble family.
She had an aunt, Takatsukasa Nori-ko (daughter of Takatsukasa Masamichi), and she was adopted as an heiress by the 12th lord of Tokushima Domain, Hachisuka Narihisa. Hachisuka Narihisa was both the head of the domain and Shinako’s adoptive father-in-law.
She married Hachisuka Nariyuki, the head of Tokushima Domain. As his consort, Takatsukasa Shinako was introduced into the domain leadership.
Her adopted daughter, Noriko, was the eldest daughter of Hachisuka Takamasa and the wife of Fujiwara no Tadayoshi, a Kugyō held in high regard. Shinako adopted Noriko as her daughter and included her in the court nobility (Kōke), likely aiming to strengthen ties between the domain and the imperial court noble family.
She died at the age of approximately 38. Her death occurred in 1858, specifically on the 27th day of the 11th month of the Ansei era (which corresponds to December 31, 1858, in the Gregorian calendar).
The above information is based on her family relationships and basic facts about her life.
