Introduction

Hachisuka Narihiro (蜂須賀 斉裕; October 14, 1821 – January 30, 1868) was a Japanese daimyō during the late Edo period. He held authority over the Tokushima Domain. Narihiro was a son of Tokugawa Ienari, the eleventh shōgun of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Narihiro's birth date is recorded as October 14, 1821. His mother was Oyae no Kata, who died in 1843 and was later known as Kaishun'in. As the son of a shōgun, Narihiro was given in adoption to the Tokushima domain, where he became the adopted heir of Hachisuka Narimasa. He succeeded to the headship of the family in 1843.

During his tenure as daimyō, Narihiro implemented various reforms aimed at addressing the social unrest and peasant revolts that stemmed from administrative issues under his predecessor. His leadership in the Tokushima Domain lasted until 1868.

In 1868, Hachisuka Narihiro was succeeded by Hachisuka Mochiaki, who became the next daimyō of Tokushima.

Regarding his family, Narihiro was married to Takatsukasa Shinako (1820–1858), a daughter of Takatsukasa Masamichi. They had at least one child, a daughter named Kayohime (1848–1865), who died young. Kayohime was engaged to Matsudaira Mochiaki, also known as Hachisuka Mochiaki, who succeeded Narihiro as daimyō.

Narihiro’s paternal grandfather and other ancestors are not detailed in the provided information. However, his connection to the Tokugawa family emphasizes his status as a son of a prominent shōgun.
