Introduction

Qi Qin, born on October 17, 1958, in Taichung City, Taiwan Province, with ancestral origins in Shandong Province and native roots in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province. His grandfather, Qi Xiang, was born between the late 1890s and early 1900s; he traveled to Manchuria, later relocating to Dongning County near Suifenhe in Heilongjiang. His father was named Qi Ji, commemorating the Jishui River in Shandong. His elder brother is named Qi Lu, and his elder sister is Qi Yu. From a young age, Qi Qin loved music and was close to his sister. Influenced by her, he gradually embarked on a musical path during his adolescence.

He attended the affiliated middle school of Tamkang University in Taichung. During his middle school years, after an incident caused by alcohol, he was sent to the Juvenile Rehabilitation Center in Zhanghua City, where he spent three years. During his time there, his sister Qi Yu visited him every weekend, offering care and support. After being released, for more than a year, he was confined at his father's house, practicing calligraphy, studying English, and delving into classical Chinese texts daily. His sister used earnings from an award-winning performance in Hong Kong to purchase a guitar for him, laying the foundation for his musical career. After just two to three months of learning guitar, he mastered playing techniques.

Subsequently, due to his proficiency in English, he worked as an English typist at a pharmaceutical company. Outside of work during the day, he continuously sought opportunities to showcase his singing talent, beginning to busk at folk song restaurants in Taiwan. His first public performance received poor reviews, but through experiences at twenty or thirty different venues, he gradually built confidence. Between 1979 and 1980, he performed at Western restaurants and engaged in folk songwriting. In 1981, his talent was noticed by agent Xia Chun-yong, who signed him to Zhong Yi Records. Around the same time, he enlisted in the military, serving in the navy for three years until his discharge in 1985.

In the musical realm, Qi Qin released his debut album, "You See The Fluffy One," in 1981, gradually gaining recognition. After his military service, he released his signature album, "The Wolf's Album," which garnered widespread attention. He then released multiple albums of diverse styles, including "Mysterious Encounter," "Winter Rain," "Burning Love," "Wolf II," "Homeless Longing," and "Anniversary." His music blended folk, rock, and lyrical elements, pioneering the eclectic landscape of Mandarin pop music.

In film, Qi Qin starred in movies such as "The Green Grass Sky," "Call Girl 1988," and "Last Winter," and also participated in musical theater and concerts. Between 1986 and 1988, he established a significant position in the Chinese-language music scene, producing many classic songs like "Approximately Winter," "The Outside World," and "Winter Rain."

In 1986, he joined Rolling Stone Records, founded the personal music studio "Hong," and organized the band "Hong Band." In 1988, his album "Wolf I" was introduced to Mainland China, becoming the first Taiwanese singer to sell over a million copies there and helping promote Hong Kong and Taiwan music in mainland China. He continued to influence the Mandarin music industry, releasing award-winning albums and holding numerous international concerts.

Qi Qin is also active in social philanthropy. He has served as a "Hunger Ambassador" and image ambassador for various charitable causes, caring about children, environmental protection, and wildlife conservation. His wide-ranging social influence and musical contributions have made him one of the milestone figures in Mandarin pop music.

In recent years, Qi Qin has continued releasing new works, participating in charity galas, serving as a music mentor, and receiving numerous awards and honors, maintaining his status as an influential figure in the Mandarin music scene.
