Introduction
Tokugawa Harutoshi (徳川 治紀; 1773–1816) was a Japanese daimyō during the Edo period who governed the Mito Domain. He authored and presented the Dai Nihonshi, a comprehensive historical record of Japan, to the Imperial Court.
He was the eldest son of Tokugawa Harumori (1751–1805). His childhood name was Tsuruchiyo (鶴千代). His mother was Yayohime, the daughter of Ichijo Michika.
Tokugawa Harutoshi was married to Manhime, the daughter of Tokugawa Shigenori of Kishu Domain. He also had several concubines, including Jose'in Shimada-dono, Toyama-dono, and Kiyoko.
He fathered multiple children. With his wife Manhime, he had two daughters: Kashiwahime and Yasuhime. His children with other women were Tokugawa Narinobu (1797–1829) with Jose'in; Juko (1796–1844) with an unspecified partner; Narinobu, who married Nijo Narinobu with Shimada Tadahime; Nariaki, who married Matsudaira Yoshitatsu of Takasu Domain, with Shimada Kiyoko; and another child, Tokugawa Nariaki, with Toyama.
Additional details regarding his life, career achievements, and familial relationships are documented in historical records, but specific information beyond his lineage, marriage connections, and contributions to Japanese historiography is limited in the provided data.
