Introduction
Yoriyakata Matsudaira was a feudal lord of the late Edo period, serving as the 7th lord of the Hitachi Hitachi County Shiso Domain. His court rank was Junior Fifth Rank Lower, and he held the posts of Ōin-to (Great Cook) and Chief Tax Official.
There are no specific records regarding his date of birth or birthplace. However, he was the fifth son of Tokugawa Harunori, the 7th lord of Mito Domain in Hitachi Province. His mother was Yaezaki, the daughter of Kyūjirō Nakayama. His childhood name was Sankunin.
In 1807 (Bunka 4), following the death of his predecessor, Matsudaira Yoritaka (Harunori’s cousin), Yoriyakata became his adopted heir and inherited the family estate. It is generally believed that he became adopted immediately after the previous lord’s death. However, some records indicate that he retired and transferred the family headship on May 16.
Yoriyakata died on May 17, 1839 (Tenpō 10). After his death, the succession was continued by his adopted son, Yorii, the younger brother of Yoriyakata’s adoptive father, Yoriyuki.
His posthumous Buddhist name was Matugen-in-dono Dōyo Jōtoku Shten Dai-kōji. His grave is located at Zuiryūzan in Mizuryū-machi, Taga City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Regarding family, his official wife was Kan, the adopted daughter of Matsudaira Yoriyori and daughter of Matsudaira Raku. His adopted son was Yorii, the fourth son of Raku.
Records regarding his life and details are limited. Most available information pertains mainly to his succession and death, with little detail on other aspects of his life.
