Introduction

Peter Mark Andrew Phillips was born at 10:46 a.m. on 15 November 1977 at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in London. He is the first child of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, who married in 1973. As the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, he was the first grandchild of a reigning monarch in over 500 years born without a title or courtesy title. At birth, he was fifth in the line of succession to the British throne, a position he maintained until the birth of his cousin William, Prince of Wales, in 1982. As of 2025, his position in the line of succession has changed to 19th.

Phillips's baptism took place on 22 December 1977 in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace, conducted by Archbishop of Canterbury Donald Coggan. His godparents included his maternal uncle, Prince Charles, along with Geoffrey Tiarks, Captain Hamish Lochore, Lady Cecil Cameron of Lochiel, and Jane Holderness-Roddam.

He has a younger sister, Zara Tindall (née Phillips), born in 1981, and two half-sisters: Felicity Wade (née Tonkin), born in 1985, from his father's relationship with Heather Tonkin, and Stephanie Phillips, born in 1997, from Mark Phillips's second marriage to Sandy Pflueger.

For his early education, Phillips attended Port Regis Prep School in Shaftesbury, Dorset, followed by Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland, where he served as head boy. During his gap year, he worked in Sydney, Australia, for Sports Entertainment Limited (SEL), a company he would later work for as managing director, and also gained experience working with Jackie Stewart's Formula One racing team. He played rugby union at youth and junior levels for Scotland.

He studied at the University of Exeter, earning a degree in Sports Science, and participated in rugby league during his university years.

After graduating in 2000, Phillips's career included roles at Jaguar, where he served as corporate hospitality manager, and at Williams Racing as sponsorship accounts manager. He left Williams in 2005 and joined the Royal Bank of Scotland as a manager in Edinburgh. In March 2012, he became the managing director of SEL UK. He has also been involved in organizing events such as the "Patron's Lunch" in 2016, held to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday, which involved a parade down The Mall and a picnic for 10,000 guests.

In 2020, Phillips appeared in an advertising campaign promoting Chinese company Bright Food, utilizing his royal status to endorse their milk products. He also participated in significant royal events, including standing vigil around Queen Elizabeth II's coffin during her lying-in-state in September 2022 and walking in her funeral procession.

Regarding personal relationships, Phillips previously dated Elizabeth Iorio, an heiress from the United States, and Tara Swain, a flight attendant. In 2003, he met Autumn Kelly, a Canadian management consultant; they became engaged in July 2007 and married on 17 May 2008 at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. Kelly was received into the Church of England prior to their marriage to avoid complications related to the Act of Settlement 1701. The couple's children are Savannah Anne Kathleen, born on 29 December 2010, and Isla Elizabeth, born on 29 March 2012. The Queen was present at the baptism of Savannah. Phillips and Kelly announced their separation in 2019, and their divorce was finalized in June 2021.

After his divorce, Phillips started a relationship with Lindsay Wallace in 2021, with whom he was publicly seen at the Epsom Derby in June 2022. The relationship ended in 2024. By June 2024, he had begun relationship with Harriet Sperling, an NHS paediatric nurse and freelance writer. Their engagement was announced in August 2025. Sperling has a daughter from a previous relationship and is distantly related to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester.

Throughout his life, Phillips has received several honors, including the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), the Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), the Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022), and the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2023).
