Introduction
Peter Mark Andrew Phillips, born on 15 November 1977, is a British businessman and a member of the British royal family. He is the son of Princess Anne, Princess Royal, and Mark Phillips. As a nephew of King Charles III, Phillips was born during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and previously held the position of fifth in the line of succession to the British throne; as of 2025, he is nineteenth.
Early Life and Education:
Phillips was born at 10:46 am at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, London. His birth was marked by a 41-gun salute from the Tower of London. He was baptised on 22 December 1977 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Donald Coggan, in Buckingham Palace's Music Room. His godparents included Prince Charles, Geoffrey Tiarks, Captain Hamish Lochore, Lady Cecil Cameron of Lochiel, and Jane Holderness-Roddam.
He has a younger sister, Zara Tindall (born 1981), and three half-sisters: Felicity Wade (born 1985), daughter of Mark Phillips and Heather Tonkin; and Stephanie Phillips (born 1997), daughter from his father's second marriage to Sandy Pflueger.
For his early education, Phillips attended Port Regis Prep School in Shaftesbury, Dorset, and later Gordonstoun School in Scotland, where he served as head boy. During a gap year, he worked for Sports Entertainment Limited in Sydney, Australia, and for Jackie Stewart's Formula One racing team. He represented Scotland at youth and junior levels in rugby union during the mid-1990s.
He graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in Sports Science and played rugby league for Exeter University.
Career:
Following his graduation in 2000, Phillips worked at Jaguar as a corporate hospitality manager and then for Williams racing team as sponsorship accounts manager. In September 2005, he transitioned to a management role at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh. He left RBS in March 2012 to become managing director of SEL UK, a sports management company.
In September 2012, he was a guest of honour at the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Wembley. Between 2015 and 2016, he organized the "Patron's Lunch" for Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday celebrations, which involved a parade down The Mall and a picnic for 10,000 guests. In 2020, Phillips appeared in an advertising campaign for Chinese company Bright Food, promoting its milk.
Royal Family Engagements:
On 17 September 2022, during the mourning period for Queen Elizabeth II, Phillips participated in a 15-minute vigil around his grandmother's coffin at Westminster Hall. Two days later, he was part of the royal family procession at her state funeral.
Personal Life:
Phillips has had several relationships. He dated Elizabeth Iorio, an heiress from the United States, for two years, residing together for eight months in 2001. He also had a four-month relationship with Tara Swain, a flight attendant.
In 2003, Phillips met Autumn Kelly, a Canadian management consultant, at the Canadian Grand Prix. Their engagement was announced on 28 July 2007, and they married on 17 May 2008 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Kelly was received into the Church of England prior to the marriage to avoid her Roman Catholic background from affecting Phillips’ place in the line of succession.
The couple initially lived in Hong Kong during Phillips' role at RBS. They have two daughters: Savannah Anne Kathleen, born on 29 December 2010, and Isla Elizabeth, born on 29 March 2012. Both children are in the line of succession, at positions 20th and 21st respectively. The Queen was present at Savannah’s baptism.
Phillips and Kelly separated in 2019 and finalized their divorce in 2021.
In 2021, Phillips entered a relationship with Lindsay Wallace, which ended in 2024. He subsequently became engaged to Harriet Sperling, a pediatric nurse and freelance writer, with their engagement announced on 1 August 2025. Sperling has a daughter from a previous relationship and is distantly related to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester.
