Introduction
Autumn Patricia Kelly was born on May 3, 1978, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She has a twin brother named Christopher "Chris" and an older brother named Kevin. Her parents are Kathleen "Kitty" (née McCarthy) and Brian Kelly, an executive at Hydro-Québec. She was baptized on June 18, 1978, at Saint John Fisher Parish Church and was raised in Cedar Park, Pointe-Claire, in the West Island region of Montreal. Her parents divorced when she was eight years old; subsequently, her mother married commercial pilot Ron Magas, and her father married Lynne, with whom he has two children, Jessica and Patrick.
Kelly attended a Roman Catholic parochial school followed by St. Thomas High School, a Roman Catholic institution. It was reported that she excelled in sports and studied alongside actress Casey McKinnon at St. Thomas High School. She pursued higher education at McGill University, where she graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian studies. During her university years, Kelly worked as a bartender, model, and actress; she appeared in the 1996 film "Rainbow" in a credited, non-speaking role, and participated in the television series "Sirens." After graduating, she began a career as a management consultant.
Kelly met Peter Phillips in Montreal in 2003, when he attended the Canadian Grand Prix as part of his employment with Williams F1. She was unaware at the time that Phillips was the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II until she saw him on television six weeks later. Following their encounter, she moved to the United Kingdom to be with Phillips, residing in a Kensington, London apartment and a cottage on the Gatcombe Park estate. Before their meeting, she had accepted a job with an American computer firm in England and later worked as a personal assistant to broadcaster Michael Parkinson. Kelly also participated in royal events, including a dinner at the Ritz Hotel for the Queen's 80th birthday.
Their engagement was announced publicly on July 28, 2007. The Queen provided consent for the marriage after a meeting of her British Privy Council on April 9, 2008, as required by the Royal Marriages Act 1772. Phillips proposed with a platinum ring featuring an oval-centered diamond and additional diamonds on either side. Kelly, raised Roman Catholic and educated in Catholic schools, converted to the Church of England (Anglican) before marriage, a move influenced by considerations of royal succession, given that remaining Catholic would have affected Philip's place in the line of succession. She retained her Canadian citizenship.
The couple married on May 17, 2008, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, with 300 guests attending. The ceremony was officiated by David Conner, Dean of Windsor. Kelly’s wedding dress was designed by Sassi Holford. She was lent the Festoon Tiara by Princess Anne, and wore a necklace and earrings given by Philip. Zara Phillips, her husband's sister, was one of her six bridesmaids. The couple’s wedding featured a carriage procession and a reception at Frogmore House. In 2010, they relocated from Hong Kong, where Peter Phillips was working for the Royal Bank of Scotland in sports sponsorship.
Their first child, Savannah Anne Kathleen, was born in 2010 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. She is noted as the Queen’s first great-grandchild and the first Canadian citizen in the line of succession to the Commonwealth realms' throne. The couple’s second daughter, Isla Elizabeth, was born in 2012 at the same hospital.
Kelly and Phillips separated in 2019, and their divorce was finalized on June 14, 2021. Following the divorce, she entered a relationship with Donal Mulryan, founder of the UK-based development and construction company Rockwell. As of June 2022, she was residing in Cirencester, near her ex-husband and daughters.
