Ye Xiangzhen, born in Yan'an in 1941, is the second daughter of Ye Jianying. In 1960, she was admitted to the directing department of Beijing Film Academy and graduated in 1966. In the 1980s, she worked at China News Service and directed the film "The Wilderness," which was recommended as an outstanding film at the Venice Film Festival and won the Best Story Award at the Hundred Flowers Film Awards. After directing "The Sound of the Wind Blowing the Suona" and "Sanbao's Commotion in Shenzhen," she left the film industry. In 1987, she went to Hong Kong with photographer Luo Dan to do business. She was once married to pianist Liu Shikun; they divorced during the Cultural Revolution but maintained a friendship. Currently residing in Beijing, she is dedicated to children's classic reading. In 2021, she participated in the premiere of a major film, "Young Ye Jianying's Forging of the Sword."
