Li Wenrui

Li Wenrui (1920–1949), courtesy name Shufang, was a native of Shijiaxi, Baidian, Dongtai City, Jiangsu Province. Born in 1920 into a scholarly and wealthy family west of Xinqiao in Dongtai city, her family background was affluent. Her father, Li Shengyuan, was engaged in commerce and industry, owning substantial land and property, which contributed to a well-off family economy; her mother, Lady Qian, was described as a virtuous wife and good mother, diligent and frugal in managing household affairs.

At the age of 8, Li Wenrui entered the Qu Tang Central National School in Tai County, where she received a systematic basic education, studying subjects including Chinese language, arithmetic, history, geography, music, and art. In 1933, she successfully completed her studies and obtained a primary school diploma. Subsequently, in 1938, she graduated from Nantong Tongzhou Substituting Female Normal School.

Regarding marriage and family, in 1940, Li Wenrui was introduced and married Hu Jingzhi. After marriage, the couple had three children—one son, Hu Jintao, and two daughters, Hu Jinrong and Hu Jinlai.

Li Wenrui passed away in 1949 at the age of 29. Her life was lived amidst the complex backdrop of the Chinese Anti-Japanese War and the nationwide liberation movement. There are no detailed records about her professional career or social activities. Her family background and her children later gained certain prominence in Chinese history.
