Introduction

Sun Suifang was born in March 1936 in Shanghai. Her grandfather was Sun Yat-sen, her father was Sun Ke, and her mother was Yan Aijuan. She graduated from Shanghai World Elementary School in 1948 and from Shanghai No. 8 Girls' Middle School in 1955. In 1956, she was admitted to the Department of Architecture at Tongji University. In 1959, she went to Hong Kong under the pretext of visiting relatives, where she studied extracurricular courses at the University of Hong Kong and worked at an interior design company.

In 1965, Sun Suifang married Wang Shixīn's son, Wang Shouji, a former Hong Kong businessman. In 1967, longing for family reunification, she moved to Hawaii, USA, and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Literature from the University of Hawaii. After marriage, she had two sons, Wang Zurong and Wang Zuyao.

Throughout her life, Sun Suifang was involved in numerous social and cultural initiatives. In 1985, she proposed the establishment of the "Sun Yat-sen Cardiovascular Hospital." In 1997, she founded the Sun Yat-sen Chinese Artifact Collection Museum at the Kapiolani Community College Library in Hawaii. In 1998, she suggested renaming Hong Kong's Western District Park to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park, and successfully advocated for the construction of a bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen.

In 2003, she led her family to Zigui County’s Zhongba Town to trace roots and pay respects to ancestors, proposing the restoration of Sun Yat-sen’s ancestral home in Zhongshan Town. In November 2003, she traveled to Kaifeng to visit Sun Yat-sen’s ancestral home, established the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and bronze statue to inspire future generations to carry forward Chinese excellent culture. In 2005, she was appointed Honorary Professor at Yanshan University. In 2007, she laid the foundation for the Sun Yat-sen Ancestral Memorial Hall in Fuchang Village, Zijin County.

Sun Suifang actively promoted the dissemination of Sun Yat-sen’s spirit. She donated bronze statues and organized memorial activities, including the unveiling of Sun Yat-sen’s bronze statue at Yanshan University in Qinhuangdao. In 2014, she donated a bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen in Chang'an, Dongguan, Guangdong Province, and held an inauguration ceremony. Additionally, she donated a bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen in Shanghai through the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, demonstrating her admiration for and support of Sun Yat-sen’s spirit.

As a descendant of Sun Yat-sen, Sun Suifang has reminisced about her family history in several works, including "My Grandfather Sun Yat-sen." She experienced family hardships from a young age, loved music, inherited her father's piano, and used music as spiritual comfort in her adulthood. Having moved through mainland China, Hong Kong, and the United States due to family upheavals, she made numerous visits to ancestral sites for memorial rites and actively researched Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary ideas.

After years of effort, Sun Suifang dedicated herself to promoting Sun Yat-sen’s ideas, advancing China’s modernization and national rejuvenation. She participated in international speeches multiple times, emphasizing the relevance of Sun Yat-sen’s spirit in contemporary society, and hoped to foster unity and development of the Chinese nation through culture and education.
