Introduction

Consort Guo Hui, approximately from the 13th century to the end of the 14th century, was a concubine during the early Ming Dynasty and a consort of Emperor Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang. She was born to Lady Xiao Zhang, a concubine of King Guo Zixing of Chuyang, and had three sons and two daughters. Her mother, Lady Xiao Zhang, was a concubine of Guo Zixing; in her early years, Lady Xiao Zhang facilitated the marriage of Guo Zixing’s daughter, Lady Ma, to Zhu Yuanzhang. The exact time when Guo Hui entered the palace is not documented. In May of the third year of the Hongwu era (1370), Zhu Yuanzhang granted her the title of Hui Fei (Graceful Consort). In April of the fourth year of the Hongwu era (1371), she gave birth to the eleventh prince, Zhu Chun, who was titled King of Shu Xian. In August of the seventh year of the Hongwu era (1374), she bore the thirteenth prince, Zhu Gui, given the title King of Dai Jian. In the ninth year of Hongwu (1376), she gave birth to the twelfth princess, Princess Yongjia Zhenyi. On April 30 of the twelfth year of Hongwu (1379), Guo Hui gave birth to the nineteenth prince, Zhu Xiao, titled Duke of Gu. After 1381, she also had a daughter, Princess Ruyang. Her portrayals have appeared in the television dramas "Great Ming Heroes" (1987) and "Legendary Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang" (2006).
