Introduction
Javad Hosseini Khamenei (7 December 1895 – 6 July 1986) was an Iranian Shia cleric. He was a member of the Khamenei family and the father of Ali Khamenei, Iran's second supreme leader. He was also the grandfather of Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's third and current supreme leader.
Born on 7 December 1895, Javad Khamenei was part of a Sayyid family of Iranian Azerbaijis. His place of birth was Najaf, in Ottoman Iraq. During his childhood, he relocated to Tabriz, Iran. He pursued religious studies at seminaries in Najaf, Qom, and Mashhad. After completing his education, he settled near the shrine of Ali ibn Musa (al-Ridha) in Mashhad, where he served as the Imam of an Azerbaijani mosque.
In his personal life, Javad Khamenei was married twice. From his first marriage, he had three daughters named Alaviyeh, Batoul, and Fatemeh Soltan. Following the death of his first wife, he married Khadijeh Mirdamadi, an ethnic Persian. With her, he had one daughter, Badri Khamenei, and four sons, namely Mohammad Khamenei, Ali Khamenei, Hadi Khamenei, and Mohammad Hassan Khamenei.
Javad Khamenei passed away on 6 July 1986. His burial site is located at the portico behind the Imam Reza Shrine, adjacent to Dar-al-Feiz.
