Introduction

William Henry George Wellesley (1806–1875) was a Royal Navy officer and a member of the Wellesley family. He was born in 1806 and died in 1875. His familial relations included several notable figures: his uncle Richard Wellesley inherited the title of Earl of Mornington in the Irish House of Lords; his uncles William Wellesley and Arthur Wellesley were members of the UK House of Lords; and his father was created Baron Cowley in 1828. William Henry George Wellesley's elder brother, Henry Wellesley, was elevated to the rank of Earl in 1847.

Wellesley's naval career included commands of two ships. From 1830 to 1832, he commanded the HMS Sapphire. Subsequently, from 1832 to 1833, he commanded the HMS Winchester. During his time in command, he undertook surveys that contributed to navigational charts of the South Atlantic coasts of Africa and South America, as well as waters around Australia.

His family included several prominent Anglican clergy: his uncle Gerald Wellesley served as Chaplain of the Royal Household, and his younger brother, Gerald Wellesley, was Dean of Windsor.

In the 1840s, William Wellesley converted from Anglicanism to the Plymouth Brethren, an evangelical Christian sect known for its pacifist principles. Following his conversion, he resigned his military commission and left the Royal Navy.

No further details about his career or life are provided beyond these points, and there are no references listed directly within the original text.
