Lady Mary Grey

Mary Wood, Viscountess Halifax (born Mary Grey on 3 May 1807 – died 6 July 1884), was an English noblewoman. She was the youngest surviving daughter of Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey.

On 30 July 1829, she married Charles Wood, who later became the 1st Viscount Halifax. The marriage produced seven children: Hon Blanche Edith Wood (who died in 1921), Hon Alice Louisa Wood (who died in 1934), Charles Lindley Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax (born 1839, died 1934), Hon Emily Charlotte Wood (who died in 1904), Hon Francis Lindley Wood (who served in the Royal Navy and died in 1873), Lt Col Hon Henry John Lindley Wood (who lived from 1843 to 1903), and Fredrick George Lindley Wood (later Meynell, born in 1846, died in 1910).

Her daughter, Hon Blanche Edith Wood, married Colonel the Hon Henry William Lowry-Corry (born 1845, died 1927) and they had children, including Hon Alice Louisa Wood. Hon Alice Louisa married the Hon. John Charles Dundas, Member of Parliament, and their children included Charles Lindley Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax.

Her son, Charles Lindley Wood, married Lady Agnes Elizabeth Courtenay, and they had children.

Hon Emily Charlotte Wood married Hugo Francis Meynell-Ingram, with no children.

Hon Francis Lindley Wood served in the Royal Navy.

Lt Col Hon Henry John Lindley Wood married Laura Adeline Thellusson; they had one child, Fredrick George Lindley Wood, who married Lady Mary Susan Félicie Lindsay and had children.

The family resided at Belgrave Square in London and Hickleton Hall in South Yorkshire. In 1878, Viscountess Halifax was admitted by Queen Victoria to the Imperial Order of the Crown of India, an order instituted in that year. She died at the age of 76, with her husband passing away one year later. Her eldest son succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Halifax.
