Introduction
Tutsuko Nakasone (October 30, 1921 – November 7, 2012) was a Japanese politician and the wife of Yasuhiro Nakasone. Throughout her life, she was involved in her husband's political activities and family life.
She was born in Tokyo Prefecture (now Tokyo Metropolis). On October 30, 1921, she was born as the third daughter of Giichiro Kobayashi, a professor at Meiji University. Regarding her education, she graduated from the Department of Classical Literature at Japan Women's University, a specialized school established before the implementation of the school system reforms.
In her career, she met her husband Yasuhiro Nakasone, who was serving as a naval officer during the war, in Tokyo. At that time, Yasuhiro was working at the Navy facilities in Takao, Taiwan. They were married on February 11, 1945.
In 1947, her husband was elected to the House of Representatives, making her a politician's wife. Yasuhiro Nakasone later became Japan's Prime Minister, holding office as the 71st, 72nd, and 73rd Prime Minister.
During the period from November 27, 1982, to November 6, 1987, when Nakasone served as Prime Minister, Tutsuko was active as First Lady for an extended period.
She died on November 7, 2012, at the age of 92. Her funeral was held at the Aoyama Funeral Hall in Tokyo.
