Introduction
Chieko Mori (née Maki; born January 24, 1937) is a Japanese individual. She is from Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and graduated from Waseda University’s Faculty of Education. During her university years, she met her future husband, Yoshirō Mori, at Waseda University’s circle "International Friendship Society."
After graduation, she worked at Japan Publishing Trade. She married Yoshirō Mori in November 1961, and her surname changed to Mori in the same year. After marriage, she started a family and gave birth to her first son, Yūki Mori, in 1945. She later also had a daughter, Yōko.
On April 5, 2000, her husband Yoshirō Mori became Prime Minister, and Chieko Mori began activities as the Prime Minister’s wife. She served in this role for about one year until Yoshirō Mori resigned on April 26, 2001.
She is the author of the book "The Prime Minister’s Wife, Chieko Mori: ‘My Husband, Yoshirō Mori’" (published in Weekly Houseki, July 6, 2000).
