Introduction

Yuki Mori (born October 15, 1964 – July 25, 2011) was a Japanese politician. He was originally from Ishikawa Prefecture; his father was Jiro Imamatsu, a former House of Representatives member, and his grandfather was the first mayor of the town, Kihei Mori. His family had been active in politics.

Early Life and Family Background

Yuki Mori was born in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, in 1964. His great-grandfather, Kihei Mori, served as the first mayor of Neagicho, Nomi District, Ishikawa Prefecture, and his grandfather, Shigeaki Mori, also held the position of mayor. His father, Jiro Imamatsu, was elected as a member of the House of Representatives representing Ishikawa Prefecture, winning the 32nd general election in 1969. Yuki spent his childhood in Machida City, Tokyo, and later graduated from Tamagawa Gakuen High School, operated by the Tamagawa Academy school corporation in Tokyo. Aspiring for higher education, he enrolled at the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Tokai University but dropped out partway through.

Overseas Study and Employment Activities

After dropping out of university, Mori completed an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) program at Georgetown University in the United States. Upon returning to Japan, he began activity as a secretary to his father, and from 2000, supported his father’s activities as the first official secretary of a House of Representatives member.

Political Career

In 2001, he became the president of the Komatsu Youth Association, a youth organization, engaging in community activities. While supporting his father’s political endeavors, he ran in the 2006 Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly by-election as the Liberal Democratic Party candidate for the Nomi District in Nomi City, and was elected. After his election, he joined the faction within the Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly called "Liberal Democratic Party Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly Members' Conference." He was re-elected in the 2007 election and, following a reorganization of the Civil Engineering Industry Committee, served as its chairman.

Media and Incidents

During the Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly elections, there was an incident where defamatory articles about him were published in 『Weekly Asahi』, which his side protested. The inaccuracies in the articles were acknowledged, and the editorial staff issued an apology. Regarding this matter, his father, Kiro Mori, commented on the risks associated with the spread of false information during election periods.

Consequently, he resigned from his position as a member of the Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly on the same day. His successor was Kunio Uno.
