Introduction
Xu Ning was the former husband of Li Ne, the daughter of Mao Zedong and Jiang Qing. The couple married in September 1971, when Xu Ning was working as a staff member at an internal guesthouse under the Beidaihe Administration Office of the Central Committee’s General Office.
Li Ne and Xu Ning met while Li Ne was undergoing labor and re-education at the May Seventh Cadre School in Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province. They fell in love during this period and decided to marry. Although Jiang Qing opposed the marriage, Mao Zedong supported his daughter’s right to choose freely and presented the couple with a set of Selected Works of Marx and Lenin as a wedding gift.
After their marriage, the couple had one son, named Xu Xiaoning. However, over time, differences in personality and lifestyle led to growing tensions between them.
Li Ne and Xu Ning eventually divorced, bringing their marriage to an end. Little information is publicly available about Xu Ning’s later life or career.
