Michael Smith

Michael Smith, a Swedish musician born in the 1950s, gained a certain reputation in the music world. He first met Chinese singer Wei Wei on December 23, 1992, during a visit to China. At that time Smith was invited to attend a performance by the Central Song and Dance Troupe and was captivated by Wei Wei’s stage presence and voice.

In 1993, Wei Wei traveled to Sweden seeking to meet Michael. She then became pregnant and, as an unmarried mother, went to the United States to stay at Michael’s sister’s home to await the birth. In April 1994 she gave birth to their first son; the couple then officially married, and the marriage lasted ten years. In addition to their first son, the couple welcomed a second son in 1996 and a third son in 1998. They had three sons in total, named Symington, Remington, and Vinson, all born in Atlanta, Georgia.

In 2000 Michael Smith published a book titled My Chinese Wife — Wei Wei, which recorded their love story and family life. The book drew attention after promotion. In 2003 Wei Wei filed for divorce with the Swedish authorities, and the couple’s marriage officially ended in 2004.

After the divorce, Michael Smith married a white model, Loreta Greivyte, in 2008 and currently resided in Sweden. Over the years he made several personal changes and gradually withdrew from the public eye, until he died in Sweden in 2022 from multiple organ failure caused by advanced cancer.

Aside from My Chinese Wife — Wei Wei, Michael Smith is mainly known for his music and his family experiences. His life included several cross-national marriages and family changes, reflecting a trajectory lived across different cultural backgrounds.
