Introduction
Takatsukasa Hiroko (born November 24, 1814 [Gregorian calendar: January 15, 1814] – September 28, 1892 [Meiji 25]) was a member of the Japanese imperial family. She was a great-grandchild of Emperor Higashiyama. She was the wife of Prince Fushimi no Miya Kuniyuki and was known as the princess consort of Prince Kuniyuki.
Life
She was born as a daughter of Prime Minister Takatsukasa Masahiro (great-grandchild of Emperor Higashiyama). Her sisters included Princess Yoshiko, wife of Kan'in-no-miya Takakuni, Lady Tsuneko, a court lady of Emperor Ninkō’s court (later known as Shin-Kōgōmon-in), and Lady Kiko, another court lady of Emperor Ninkō (later known as Shin-Sakuheimon-in). She also had relatives such as her attendant Ni-no-ko (Tennin’in), who served shogun Tokugawa Ienari.
On November 21, 1835 (Tempo 6), she married Prince Kuniyuki of Fushimi. The couple had several children, including Prince Sadaka of Fushimi, Princess Noriko, a court lady associated with the Tokugawa family of Kishu Domain, and Prince Sadai of Fushimi. Their descendants inherited the Fushimi-no-miya bloodline.
Honors and Titles
On March 25, 1889 (Meiji 22), she was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, First Class, the Grand Cordon.
Family Relations
Her father was Takatsukasa Masahiro. With her husband, Prince Kuniyuki of Fushimi, she had the following children:
- Prince Sadaka of Fushimi
- Princess Noriko, daughter of the court lady associated with the Tokugawa family of Kishu
- Prince Sadai of Fushimi
Death
She died on September 28, 1892 (Meiji 25).
