Introduction
Zhu Zhanjun (27 March 1404 – 8 June 1466) was a prince of the Ming dynasty. He was the second son of the Hongxi Emperor. His mother was Consort Li. On 1 December 1424, Zhu Zhanjun was granted the title of Prince of Zheng (鄭王).
Following the death of the Hongxi Emperor, Empress Zhang ordered Zhu Zhanjun and his brother, Zhu Zhanshan, Prince of Xiang, to serve as regents until the Xuande Emperor ascended the throne. During the campaign to Le'an led by the Xuande Emperor, Zhu Zhanjun and Zhu Zhanshan were entrusted with the responsibility of guarding Beijing.
In 1429, Zhu Zhanjun was enfeoffed in Fengxiang Prefecture. In 1443, after the death of his tenth brother, Zhu Zhanshan (朱瞻埏), who held the title of Prince Gong of Wei, Emperor Yingzong issued an edict reassigning Zhu Zhanjun to Huaiqing Prefecture. Before assuming his princely estate (王府), Zhu Zhanjun initially stayed in Beijing, and in 1444, he moved to his assigned fiefdom.
Historical records indicate that Zhu Zhanjun possessed a violent temperament and was noted for killing individuals on multiple occasions with his stick. To manage his conduct, Emperor Yingzong appointed Zhou Ying (周瑛), a censor, as his chief secretary.
He held the princely title for forty-two years, until his death in 1466. Posthumously, he was given the name "Jing" (靖). In 1468, his son Zhu Qiying succeeded him.
Zhu Zhanjun's consort was from the Zhang clan. His wife, Princess Consort Zhang, died in 1442 and was the daughter of Zhang Ben, who served as the Commander of the Central Warden (中兵馬指揮). They had children, including:
- Zhu Qiying (朱祁鍈), Prince Jian of Zheng (鄭簡王; 1431–1495), the eldest son.
- Zhu Qirui (朱祁銳), Prince of Xinping (新平王), the second son.
- Zhu Qixian (朱祁銑), Prince of Jingyang (涇陽王; 1433–1488), the third son.
- Zhu Qirong (朱祁鎔), Prince of Chaoyi (朝邑王), the fourth son.
- A daughter known as Princess Xin'an, who married Zhou Lian (周濂).
- A second daughter, Princess Sishui, who married Cui Ming (崔銘).
Another daughter from an unknown consort was also part of his issue.
