Allan Hoover

Allan Henry Hoover (July 17, 1907 – November 4, 1993) was born in London and was the younger son of President Herbert Hoover and First Lady Lou Henry Hoover. He was raised in Palo Alto, California, and graduated from Palo Alto High School. Hoover earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford University. He also studied towards a master's degree at Harvard Business School before pursuing a career in the banking industry.

Hoover's elder brother was Herbert Hoover Jr., born in 1903 and deceased in 1969. Together, their family background included notable public service and academic achievements.

Throughout his career, Allan Hoover was involved in various foundations and institutions related to his family’s legacy. He served in a leadership role at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University for fifty years. Additionally, he purchased his father’s birthplace in West Branch, Iowa, for $4,500 and transformed it into the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. Hoover's professional pursuits extended into the fields of mining, agriculture, and finance, with activities spanning international interests.

In his personal life, Allan Hoover was married to Margaret Coberly Hoover. They had three children: two sons, Andrew and Allan Jr., and a daughter, Lou Henry. His granddaughter through his son Andrew is Margaret Hoover.

During retirement, Hoover divided his time between the San Francisco Bay Area and Greenwich, Connecticut. He passed away in Portola Valley, California, on November 4, 1993. His funeral was held in West Branch, Iowa.
