Introduction
Lucius Tuckerman Gibbs (1869-1909) was an American individual known to be the father of Wolcott Gibbs, an American theater critic, humorist, and editor. He was also the son of Angelica Singleton Gibbs, who was the granddaughter of Martin Van Buren, the president of the United States from 1837 to 1841. Angelica Singleton Gibbs's lineage includes Anna Vanderpoel Van Buren Duer, her daughter and Wolcott Gibbs's grandmother, and through her, the family traces back to John Van Buren, an American lawyer and politician, and ultimately to Martin Van Buren.
