Juten Tanaka was born in 1874 as the sixth daughter of Naoshi Otsukyu, an army officer. Her exact birthplace is Tokyo. She is known to have been raised in a military family.
Marriage and Family
In 1893 (Meiji 26), she married Giichi Tanaka, the son of a politician named Shinji Tanaka. After marriage, she owned a main residence of about 1,000 tsubo located in Kita-Aoyama. Adjacent to her home were the residences of Kumakichi Nakajima and Keiaki Kawamura, located across the street. She and her husband had a son, Ryuuo Tanaka, and a daughter, Masako Tanaka. Their daughter Masako was adopted by Kōtarō Hashimoto.
Death and Funeral
She died of a cerebral hemorrhage on September 26, 1937, at her home in Kashiwa-cho, Yodobashi Ward, Tokyo. She was 63 years old. Her funeral was held at Dama Cemetery.
