Introduction
Sun Man (May 12, 1906 – January 28, 2001), courtesy name Mingyu, style name Guihua, was a native of Cuiheng Village, Nanlang District, Xiangshan (today’s Nanlang Subdistrict, Zhongshan City, Guangdong). He was born in Oakland, United States, and was the grandson of Sun Mei and the eldest son of Sun Chang, making him a grandnephew of Sun Yat-sen. Orphaned at an early age, he was raised by Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling. He studied at Pui Ching School in Guangzhou, completing primary through secondary education, and later graduated from Fudan University in Shanghai. In 1929, he attended the grand ceremony of Sun Yat-sen’s state funeral. During the Republican era, he served as Commissioner of the Central Trust Bureau, Director of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Executive Director of the Guangdong Provincial Industrial Association, and Commissioner of the National Economic Council. In May 1932, together with his younger brother Sun Qian, he visited ancestral roots in Shangsha Village, Dongguan.
In 1949, Sun Man relocated to Hong Kong, moved to Taiwan in 1965, and settled in California in 1987. He returned to his hometown to pay respects to his ancestors in December 1989 and April 1995, and in June 1992 he and his brother Sun Qian, along with family members, worshiped at the Sun Clan Ancestral Hall in Shangsha Village, Dongguan. Sun Man passed away in Los Angeles on January 28, 2001, and was buried in the outskirts of the city. He compiled the Cuiheng Sun Clan Dacheng Genealogy.
Family relations: His father was Sun Chang (1881–1917), his mother died early. His daughter, Sun Yali, was born in Hong Kong, later studied abroad, and worked in film in the United States, Australia, France, and China. She is the founder of the Sun Yat-sen Cultural Foundation and has long been engaged in promoting the cultural legacy of Sun Yat-sen.
