Zhu Zhaoxiang

Zhu Zhaoxiang, born in 1966, is a well-known Malaysian entrepreneur and public figure. He is a 28th-generation descendant of the Song dynasty scholar Zhu Xi. Zhu comes from a prominent family: his father Zhu Zhenghua served as a leader of the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and worked as a government advisor, and his mother Zhu Lin Xiuqin is a Chinese-Malaysian businesswoman who formerly chaired the Terengganu MCA Women’s Wing and currently serves as chairperson of Malaysia’s Xiao'en Group and president of the Xiao'en Cultural Foundation. The family is wealthy; Zhu owns multiple properties in Malaysia, including a large villa compound in downtown Kuala Lumpur, and enjoys a comfortable standard of living.

As a youth he was sent to study in the United Kingdom, where he studied accounting and business management. Before turning 20 he was already managing serviced apartments he had invested in in the UK. His education and early career development laid the foundation for his later business success.

Professionally, Zhu Zhaoxiang is the managing director of Malaysia’s Xiao'en Group, a multicultural investment group with businesses spanning funeral services, cultural education, real estate, construction, food and beverage, tourism, and financial investment. The group ranks among Malaysia’s notable companies, and his personal assets have been estimated as high as 5 billion RMB, reflecting his significant commercial achievements.

In his family life, he is the eldest son. Family members include his mother Zhu Lin Xiuqin, father Zhu Zhenghua, and his younger siblings. He married Hu Jing on September 27, 2008. Hu Jing is a well-known actress from mainland China and is described as the first Chinese actress to be awarded the title “Datin” by the Sultan’s Palace in Kuala Lumpur. They have one son, Zhu Xiaoyang, born on November 25, 2009.

Zhu has appeared on television several times, including a 2014 appearance on Travel Satellite TV’s Lu Yu’s Gift, a 2019 interview on More Than Her, and the 2025 broadcast of Wife’s Romantic Travel 2025. He and his wife Hu Jing have also appeared together on multiple variety shows, sharing glimpses of their family life.

He was publicly known to have an early friendship with Michelle Yeoh; they met in the UK and formed a friendship, but for family reasons the relationship did not develop into a romance. Zhu Zhaoxiang’s personal life and business career carry a degree of influence within Malaysia’s Chinese business community.
