Introduction

Hu Jing was born on November 13, 1978, in Chuxiong City, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan. Her early education included six years (1990–1996) studying ethnic dance in the Dance Department of the Minzu University of China. While at school she won second prize in the 1994 Beijing Dance Competition. She later enrolled in the Acting Department (class of 1996) of the Central Academy of Drama and graduated from there. In 2000 she earned a Bachelor of Arts and attended the academy’s “First Class of Stars,” studying alongside well-known actors such as Zhang Ziyi, Zeng Li, and Yuan Quan.

Acting career:

- 1998: Made her film debut in Love in the Internet Age, directed by Jin Chen, marking her official entry into film and TV.

- 1999: Appeared in the costume mythology series Mr. Liaozhai.

- 2000: Played the role of Lady Wei in the historical palace drama Daming Palace (starring Zhou Xun and Chen Hong). That year she also appeared in the TV series Detective Fang Miu, playing a romantic character.

- 2002: Starred in the costume martial-arts drama The Young Zhang Sanfeng with Dicky Cheung (Zhang Weijian), Li Bingbing, and Su Youpeng; also made a cameo as the Kingdom of Women’s queen in the mythological series The Monkey King, Sun Wukong.

- 2003: Gained attention for her role as Su Mo’er in the historical drama The Secret History of Xiaozhuang. The same year she played the second female lead Hong Xiao in The Eighteen Arhats.

- 2004: Portrayed the skilled Princess Mingji in the historical series The Yang Family Generals.

- 2005: Starred as the female lead Fu Tianxiang in the costume fantasy series Dragon Pearl of the Demon Realm.

- 2006: Starred as Xilinchun in the palace drama The Qing Imperial Harem: Return the Pearl, winning the Southern Festival’s Most Popular Actress Award.

- 2007: Was nominated for Beijing TV’s “Jinkang Cup” Best Actress Award for her role in Kangxi’s Secret History. She also released her first solo album, Scorpio, and played the playful Su Rongrong in The Legend of Chu Liuxiang that year.

- 2008–2014: Continued to be active in film and television, starring in multiple series and movies.

- 2017: Made her first appearance in a mainline (political/serious) drama, playing Gao Xiaoqin in the large-scale anti-corruption series In the Name of the People.

- 2017–2020: Continued acting in series including The Age of Orange, The Investiture of the Gods, and Seamless.

Charity work:

Hu Jing has been active in public welfare. In 2008 she participated in “Cheer! 2008 — Dragon TV Hope Project Happy Sports Campaign.” In 2010 she took part in the online charity action “Journey of Love.” In 2011 she donated a piece to the “Believe in Love — 2012 Movie Channel ‘Premiere’ New Year Charity Gala,” which sold for RMB 1.5 million. Since 2012 she has frequently attended charity galas and taken part in charity film projects.

Personal life:

Hu Jing married on September 27, 2008, in Kuala Lumpur. She gave birth to a son on November 25, 2009. On October 16, 2010, she and her husband Zhu Zhaoxiang were conferred the Malaysian honorific titles Datin and Datuk at the Sultan’s palace in Kuala Lumpur, making her the first China-born entertainer to receive such titles.
