Xiao Buyu, born on May 11, 2021, weighed five jin eight liang (approximately 2.75 kilograms). Her birth involved inhaling amniotic fluid, which led to rapid breathing, and she was soon sent to an incubator. During treatment, she experienced elevated jaundice levels; after several days of care, she gradually recovered and began breastfeeding on the third day. Her mother is renowned Chinese actress Xie Na, and her father is singer and musician Zhang Jie. She also has twin older sisters, Tiaotiao and Qiaoqiao.

On September 11, 2021, Xie Na publicly revealed Xiao Buyu’s nickname during the recording of "Happy Camp," describing it as symbolizing "the budding of new life."
