Zhou Xiujin was the mother of Zhou Yongkang, former member of the CCP Politburo Standing Committee and former Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission. She came from an ordinary family in Sichuan and became both a key figure in her household and an active participant in village affairs.

As a rural women’s cadre, Zhou Xiujin served as the head of the women’s committee in her local production brigade. In this role, she was responsible not only for women’s daily affairs but also for helping to organize agricultural production, promote collective labor, and mediate family disputes—important responsibilities in the rural society of her time.

In her family life, Zhou Xiujin was married to Zhou Yisheng (originally surnamed Lu, who changed his surname after becoming a son-in-law in the Zhou family). Zhou Yisheng made a living by fishing for eels, and although the family was not wealthy, the couple worked hard to provide for their children.

As a mother, Zhou Xiujin played a formative role in Zhou Yongkang’s upbringing. She was not only a supportive wife but also the main influence in the moral and personal education of her children. While public information about her is limited, Zhou Xiujin’s role in her family and community made her an integral part of Zhou Yongkang’s family background.
