Introduction

Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank (born Eugenie Victoria Helena on 23 March 1990), is a member of the British royal family. She is the younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. As of 2025, she is twelfth in the line of succession to the British throne.

Eugenie was born at the Portland Hospital in London at 7:58 p.m. on 23 March 1990. Her birth weight was approximately 7 pounds 8 ounces. She is the sixth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She was baptized on 23 December 1990 at St. Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham by Peter Nott, Bishop of Norwich. Notably, she was the first royal baby to have a public christening, although she was the only one of the Queen's grandchildren not to be baptized in the Lily Font.

Her parents divorced when she was six years old, leading to joint custody arrangements. Following the divorce, her parents received financial support facilitated through a trust fund established with the support from Queen Elizabeth II. She and her sister, Princess Beatrice, often traveled abroad with their parents during childhood.

In October 2002, at age 12, Eugenie underwent back surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital to correct scoliosis. Titanium rods were surgically inserted into her back, and she did not require further spinal surgeries afterward.

Eugenie attended multiple schools including Winkfield Montessori School (1992–1993), Upton House School in Windsor (until 1995), Coworth Park School (from 1995 to 2001), and St. George’s School near Windsor Castle (until 2003). She later studied at Marlborough College in Wiltshire for five years. During her time there, she completed three A-levels with high grades in Art, English Literature, and History of Art. After a gap year, she enrolled at Newcastle University in September 2009, earning a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Art History in 2012.

In 2013, Eugenie moved to New York City to work as a benefit auctions manager at Paddle8, an online auction house. She returned to London in July 2015 and joined Hauser & Wirth, a contemporary art gallery, as an associate director and was promoted to director in 2017. She does not receive an allowance from the Privy Purse but engages in public and charitable activities.

In her charitable work, she supports organizations including the Anti-Slavery Collective, Anti-Slavery International, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Children in Crisis, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Horatio's Garden, the Elephant Family, and the Scoliosis Association UK, among others. She has been involved in various initiatives supporting anti-slavery efforts, environmental causes, and arts patronage. Eugenie is also an author, having contributed an article to The Spectator in June 2022.

Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank, a British marketing executive, on 12 October 2018 at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. The couple had been engaged since January 2018, after being introduced by friends during a ski trip in Verbier, Switzerland. The wedding dress was designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos, notable for displaying her surgical scar, a gesture to honor her scoliosis surgery and to inspire others. They have two sons: August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, born on 9 February 2021, and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, born on 30 May 2023. August was born via Caesarean section at the Portland Hospital and was originally eleventh in the line of succession; his position has since shifted to thirteenth. Ernest is fourteenth in line.

The family has resided at Frogmore Cottage near Windsor, leased to Prince Harry, and, as of 2022, they moved to Portugal temporarily, with plans to stay at Ivy Cottage when in the UK. Eugenie and her family also spent periods at their residence at Ivy Cottage and have traveled internationally for various engagements.

Her titles have evolved over time; as a male-line granddaughter of the monarch, she was styled "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie of York" before her marriage. Following her marriage, her style is "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank."

Eugenie has authored articles, including one published in The Spectator in June 2022, titled “I hope my son will inherit the Queen's kindness.”

She maintains a largely private profile but is active in public charitable activities and patronages related to health, environment, arts, and social causes.
