Introduction
Jack Christopher Stamp Brooksbank was born on 3 May 1986 at St Thomas' Hospital in Lambeth, London. He was baptized at the Guards' Chapel located within Wellington Barracks. His father was George Edward Hugh Brooksbank (1949–2021), a company director and chartered accountant; his mother was Nicola (née Newton), born in 1953. Brooksbank is the firstborn child in his family and has a younger brother named Thomas.
Brooksbank is connected to the Brooksbank baronetcy, being in remainder to the title. His maternal great-grandparents include Sir Arthur Holland (1843–1928) and Sir Frederick Charlton Meyrick, 2nd Baronet. He is a distant relative of Princess Eugenie through the lineage of Thomas Coke, 2nd Earl of Leicester; his great-grandfather, Sir John (Jack) Spencer Coke, served as a Gentleman Usher to King George VI and as an Extra Gentleman Usher to Queen Elizabeth II. His maternal great-uncle was the 3rd Baron Hamilton of Dalzell.
He attended Stowe School in Buckinghamshire and later studied at the University of Bristol, where he did not complete a degree. His early career included working as a bartender. Subsequently, he became the general manager of Mahiki, a nightclub in Mayfair frequented by members of the British royal family, including Prince William and Prince Harry during their youth. Brooksbank later worked as a brand ambassador for Casamigos tequila. Additionally, reports indicate he owned a wine wholesale business. As of 2022, his professional activities included marketing, sales, and promotion work for Discovery Land Company, a property developer based in Portugal.
In 2011, Brooksbank began a relationship with Princess Eugenie of York, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. The two met in 2010 when Brooksbank was 24 and Eugenie was 20. Their engagement was announced on 22 January 2018 by the Duke of York's office at Buckingham Palace. The couple moved to Ivy Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace in April 2018. Their wedding was held on 12 October 2018 at St George's Chapel, Windsor. Despite media speculation, Brooksbank was not granted a peerage upon marriage, such as the title "Earl of Northallerton," consistent with recent norms for male spouses of princesses.
Brooksbank and Eugenie have two children: their first son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was born on 9 February 2021 at the Portland Hospital in London. At his birth, he was eleventh in line to the throne. August was christened on 21 November 2021 at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park; the private service was attended by Queen Elizabeth II alongside Lucas Tindall, the son of Princess Eugenie's cousin Zara Tindall. Their second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, was born on 30 May 2023.
