Introduction

George Augustus Frederick Child Villiers, 6th Earl of Jersey, was born on 4 April 1808 in London. He was a member of the Villiers family, a lineage with longstanding aristocratic roots. His father was George Child Villiers, 5th Earl of Jersey, and his mother was Lady Sarah Fane.

He was styled as Viscount Villiers until 1859, upon succeeding to the earldom. His political career included serving as a Member of Parliament for several constituencies over different periods. He represented Rochester from 1830 to 1831; Minehead from 1831 to 1832; Honiton from 1832 to 1835; Weymouth & Melcombe Regis from 1837 to 1842; and Cirencester from 1844 to 1852. Additionally, he held the position of a Lord-in-waiting to the Duchess of Cambridge during the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838.

On 12 July 1841, he married Julia Peel, the daughter of Sir Robert Peel, who served as Prime Minister. Julia Peel died in 1893. The marriage produced three children:

- Julia Sarah Alice Child Villiers (deceased in 1921), who married Sir George Orby Wombwell, 4th Baronet, on 3 September 1861, and had issue.

- Caroline Anne Child-Villiers, who married William Henry Philips Jenkins on 4 April 1872.

- Victor Albert George Child-Villiers, who became the 7th Earl of Jersey (1845–1915). He succeeded to the earldom upon his father's death in 1859 but held the title only briefly; he died of tuberculosis in Brighton on 24 October 1859, just three weeks after inheriting the title. He was buried in Middleton Stoney, Oxfordshire.

The 6th Earl of Jersey died on 24 October 1859 in Brighton.

There is a geographic location named Jersey Street in Boston, which is named in honor of Villiers.
