Introduction

Julian Tufnell Faber was born on 6 April 1917 and died on 11 January 2002. He was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Cambridge. During the Second World War, he served with the Welsh Guards and attained the rank of Major before retiring from military service.

In 1938, Faber joined the family business of Willis, Faber & Dumas, which later became known as Willis Corroon. He advanced within the firm to hold the position of chairman. Additionally, he served as chairman of Cornhill Insurance. From 1978 onward, he was notably involved in sponsoring English Test Cricket for an extended period.

Faber married Caroline Macmillan, who was a daughter of Harold Macmillan and Lady Dorothy Cavendish. Lady Dorothy Cavendish was the daughter of the 9th Duke of Devonshire. The couple had five children together:

1. Anne Cristine Adriane Faber, born in 1944. She married Michael Roger Lewis Cockerell in 1970 and later married The Hon. David Bernstein in 1995. She has two children.

2. Michael David Tufnell Faber, born in 1945. He married Catherine Suzanne de Braine and has two children.

3. Mark James Julian Faber, born in 1950 and deceased in 1991. He was a cricketer for Sussex. In 1983, he married Ann Griffith, and they had three sons.

4. David James Christian Faber, born in 1961. He is a Conservative politician and a member of the MCC Committee.

5. James Edwin Charles Faber, born in 1964.

Julian Faber passed away at the age of 84 in January 2002. His wife, Caroline, outlived him.
