Introduction

Takayuki Kukki (Kuki Takasato) was a feudal lord during the late Edo period and the 7th daimyo of the Tamba Ayabe Domain. He was born on October 30, 1780 (Anei 9, 10th month 3rd day) and died on June 23, 1808 (Bunka 5, 5th month 30th day).

According to information about his origin and family structure, Takayuki Kukki was born as the third son (or sometimes regarded as the fifth son) of the 5th daimyo, Kuki Takasada. His wife was the daughter of Date Murakatsu, and his children included his eldest son, Kuki Takatomo; his second son, Kuki Rytosu; and a daughter who became the wife of Hozuki Yukiaki.

Shortly after his birth, his father, Kuki Takasada, passed away, so Takayuki could not succeed his father’s estate at that time. Later, his brother-in-law, Kuki Ryuuki, inherited the family headship, and Takayuki was adopted as heir. In 1787 (Enmei 7), upon the death of his grandfather, Kuki Ryuuki, he inherited the family headship.

During Takayuki’s tenure as daimyo, his domain suffered numerous calamities. It is said that the residences in Kyoto and Edo, as well as about 300 houses in the castle town, were destroyed by fire. These events significantly impacted the survival and prosperity of the domain during that era.

In terms of court rank, he held the rank of Jugoyuwazui (従五位下), with the courtesy title of Shokubosho (式部少輔). He died at the age of 29, after which his eldest son, Kuki Takatomo, succeeded the family headship.
