Introduction
Utakō Terao was a woman born into a samurai family in Sonobe Town (now Nantan City), on the outskirts of Kyoto Prefecture. She was also the grandmother of Prince Morihira and is known as the lady-in-waiting to Prince Kuninomiya Asuhiko.
There are no records of her involvement in religious or political activities; however, it is confirmed that she was the mother of Junko Oda and Prince Naruhiko of the Higashikuni Imperial Family. These family relations indicate that she was part of the noble or closely related aristocratic circles associated with the Japanese Imperial Family.
Furthermore, in relation to Utakō Terao, it is believed that Yoshiko Higashikuni (née Terao), who was the later wife of Prince Naruhiko of Higashikuni, is her great-niece—specifically, the daughter of her cousin.
Note that many details about her life and specific activities are unknown, and the description is based on limited information.
