Introduction
Makiko Izumitei (born in 1850, Kan'ei 3; died September 24, 1881, Meiji 14) was a woman active during the late Edo period and early Meiji period in Japan. She belonged to a family of shrines at Shimo-Gamo Shrine and was the daughter of the samurai Izumitei Shun'eku (who was awarded the Junior Second Rank) from Kyoto Prefecture. She is known for being a lady-in-waiting to Prince Chōhiko Kuninomiya, and among her children was the 2nd Kuninomiya no Miya Kunihiko.
According to detailed records of her family lineage, Izumitei Shun'eku was a samurai affiliated with the Shimo-Gamo Shrine family based in Kyoto. Makiko had an older sister who also served as a lady-in-waiting for the Kuninomiya family. Her sister, Shizueko Izumitei, was a half-sister of Prince Kōkō of Kayo and his mother.
Makiko Izumitei was from a family of significant imperial court connections, occupying an important position in the imperial lineage. She was a grandmother to Empress Kōjun and a great-grandmother to the current Emperor Naruhito.
She married Prince Chōhiko Kuninomiya and bore several children. Her husband was a member of the imperial family and head of the house. Her children included:

- Sixth Daughter: Motoko Sainoku, wife of Baron Masayoshi Sengoku, born 1877, died 1918
- Seventh Daughter: Yasuko Joō, born 1879, died 1880
- Eighth Daughter: Suzuko Mibu, wife of Count Motonori Mibu, born 1879, died 1947
- Seventh Son: born in 1881
Makiko Izumitei's tomb is located in the Kuninomiya family cemetery in Kyoto.
