Introduction
Li Yi, originally named Li Caihe and also known as Li Yi, was from Zhenhai District, Zhejiang Province (now Beilun District, Ningbo). According to records, his father was Li Shanxiang. In June 1942 he joined the New Fourth Army’s Zhejiang East Column. In January 1944 he was approved for Party membership, but he was subsequently captured and sent to a concentration camp, and he rejoined the Party in October 1948. In the army he held positions such as radio-telegraph stenographer, cultural instructor, and librarian, and served in units including the 35th Detachment in the Three-North Region of East Zhejiang, the Central China Military Region, and the East China Field Army.
From 1949 to 1953, he worked at various units, including the Shanghai Military Control Committee’s Arts and Culture Office, the Nanjing Military Control Committee’s Arts and Culture Office, the Cultural Department of the East China Military District Political Department, the PLA Arts and Culture Society, and the General Political Department’s Youth Department, among others. In 1956 he was transferred to the Central Broadcasting Service Bureau, where he served as deputy head of the Cadre Section and as director of the Office of Zhongchang Company and head of the Personnel Department, among other posts. Upon retirement in 1983, his rank was that of a department-level (bureau-level) cadre.
