Introduction

Lin Hui, originally Lin Shengwei, was born on December 7, 1922, in Xiaogangqiaodong Village, Zhenhai County, Zhejiang Province; today this area is under Qijiashan Street, Beilun District.

- Early life: Attended Xiaogang Fubo Primary School and Weidou Primary School. In August 1937 he joined the Xiaogang Anti-Japanese Salvation Propaganda Team; in March 1938 he joined the New Fourth Army, and in October 1938 he joined the Chinese Communist Party.

- World War II service: In April 1943, he transferred from the New Fourth Army’s First Column to East Zhejiang, landing at Gudao Pu, and served as the propaganda section chief of the Political Department for the Third Detachment of the Northern Front Guerrilla Headquarters (Zhèdong Guerrilla Detachment). After the October 1945 northward retreat, he held posts including:

- Political Department Propaganda Section Chief of the 2nd Division, 1st Column of the East China Field Army

- Director of the Political Department of the 177th Regiment, 19th Division, 20th Army

He fought in the Laizhou, Menglianggu, Huaihai campaigns, the Yangtze River crossing, and the Shanghai campaign.

- After the founding of the People’s Republic: He served as

- Chief of the Education Section, Second Corps, East China Military and Political University

- In the East China Military Region and the 3rd Field Army, Chief of the Political Department Propaganda Section and Chief of the Youth Section

- Chief (Director) of the Youth Department of the General Political Department

- Deputy Director of the Political Department of the Jiangsu Production and Construction Corps

- Deputy Director of the Political Department of the Jiangsu Military District

- President and Chief Editor of the People’s Armored Forces Magazine

- Director of the PLA Armored Forces Political Work Research Office

- Rank and awards: Promoted to Colonel in 1955 and to Senior Colonel in 1964. He was awarded the Third Class Independent Freedom Medal, the Second Class Liberation Medal, and the PLA Meritorious Service Medal. After retirement, he enjoyed the military rank treatment.
