Introduction
Guo Xiaoling, born in Taiwan, is the daughter of well-known entrepreneur Guo Taiming (Terry Gou). Her education includes studies at the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating she returned to Taiwan and began gaining experience in the family business. While working alongside her father she focused on financial management and corporate operations, and participated in important Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.) events including shareholders’ meetings, the year‑end gala, the opening ceremony of the Czech plant, and her father’s public speeches.
In November 2004, Guo Xiaoling completed her training period at Hon Hai and subsequently joined the foreign bank Citibank to receive more specialized practical training in finance. Reports indicate that Guo Taiming arranged for her to intern at a foreign bank to improve her investment knowledge and practical skills, with the aim of supporting future financial strategy formulation within the Hon Hai Group. This move reflects an important development plan for her role in the group, especially as the company expanded from “3C” to “4C” and actively pursued international mergers, acquisitions, and strategic alliances.
In 2004, Guo Xiaoling established Honghan Investment Company and served as its chairperson, with registered capital of NT$66 million. The company name symbolized “double six good luck” and was funded by Guo Taiming. Through the Honghan Investment platform she worked with her father to develop her investment and management capabilities. During this period she also served as a corporate director for the first time, taking over a seat on the Foxconn board and accumulating substantial practical experience.
In addition, Guo Xiaoling plays a key role in the family’s philanthropic work. In March 2005, after her father’s wife Lin Shuru passed away, she took over as chairperson of the Yonglin Foundation. Since its establishment in 2000, the Yonglin Foundation has focused on education, charity, public welfare, and the arts, including funding schoolchildren’s nutritious lunches, supporting people in vegetative states and nursing homes, and sponsoring cultural projects such as the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and art exhibitions. Guo Taiming mentioned during the relaunch of the “Lighting” charity program that he would devote more energy to philanthropy in the future to fulfill his late wife’s wishes, using the Yonglin Foundation as a bridge to promote social development.
Guo Xiaoling’s family members include her father Guo Taiming (Terry Gou), her mother Lin Shuru, and her spouse Cao Sijie.
