Introduction

Lin Shuru, born in 1950 in Miaoli County, Taiwan Province, came from a wealthy family. She studied at Taipei Medical College, majoring in pharmacy, and had a certain academic background. Her family environment had some influence on the course of her life as she grew up.

In 1971, Lin Shuru met Guo Taiming (Terry Gou) while working at a pharmaceutical factory, and their relationship gradually developed into a romance. After several years of dating, they married in 1975 and had a son and a daughter, Guo Shouzheng and Guo Xiaoling. During this time, Lin Shuru showed care and a strong sense of responsibility toward the family, supporting her husband’s efforts and struggles in his career.

In 2000, Lin Shuru purchased a castle called “Serena Castle” in the Czech Republic, which became one of her significant personal assets. Two years later, in 2002, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her condition gradually worsened. In March 2005, she died at National Taiwan University Hospital after the cancer spread to her lungs and liver; she was 55. Her death drew public attention and was a notable event in the business community that year.

In terms of their relationship, Lin Shuru and Guo Taiming’s marriage was widely reported by the media and was described as deeply affectionate. Guo Taiming recalled that Lin Shuru made great sacrifices for the family and provided crucial support during the ups and downs of his career. In 2006 and 2007 he visited her grave on her death anniversary and before memorial days to express his grief.

Guo Taiming, as Taiwan’s richest man and president of Hon Hai Group, also drew public attention to his family and personal life after Lin Shuru’s death. Through relentless effort, he built Hon Hai Group into a company with a market value of 300 billion New Taiwan dollars, becoming a major figure in Taiwan’s business world. Although Lin Shuru was unable to overcome her illness in her final years, her life and influence remained present in both the business world and her family.
