Sun Fengshan (December 1927 – May 27, 2005) was a veteran officer of the People’s Liberation Army, originally from Quzhou, Hebei Province.

He joined the revolutionary cause in September 1938 at the age of 11 and became a member of the Chinese Communist Party in September 1945. Over the course of his military career, he held numerous positions including propagandist, cadet, instructor, staff officer, deputy battalion commander, battalion commander, engineer officer, section chief, and regimental commander. He later served as Chief of Staff of the Third Engineer District of the Shenyang Military Region, Chief of Staff of the Fifth Engineer Detachment, Deputy Director, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Yunnan Military District Headquarters, and both Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff of the Shenyang Military Region Engineer Corps.

Sun Fengshan studied at the Nanjing Nautical School and built extensive expertise within the PLA’s engineering units. His career reflected significant contributions to both national defense and infrastructure development during key periods of China’s modern history.

For his service, he was awarded the Independence and Freedom Medal of the People’s Republic of China, the Third-Class Liberation Medal, and in 1988 received the PLA Independent Meritorious Honor Medal. That same year, in June 1988, he retired with the rank equivalent to deputy corps level.

Sun Fengshan passed away in Dalian on May 27, 2005, at the age of 78. His life exemplified the loyalty, dedication, and service of a generation of Chinese military officers.
