Sun Yao (Anita Yiu Suen, born May 25, 1980) is the granddaughter of Yao Yilin, former Vice Premier of the State Council of China and member of the CCP Politburo Standing Committee. Her parents are Sun Fengshan and Yao Mingduan.

Sun Yao was born into a family with deep political roots. Her grandfather, Yao Yilin, held senior leadership positions in China’s economic planning and policymaking. Her parents, Sun Fengshan and Yao Mingduan, met and married during the turbulent Cultural Revolution years, building a close and supportive family environment for her upbringing.

In terms of education, Sun Yao has a strong international background. She graduated in 1998 from Monta Vista High School in California, USA, then studied at the University of California from 1998 to 2001. She later attended Stanford University between 2001 and 2002, further strengthening her academic and professional credentials.
