Introduction

Zhiduan was a noble of the Qing Dynasty, a Manchu Bannerman of the Bordered Yellow Banner, belonging to the Fucha clan. His birth mother is not recorded; his formal mother was Princess Shou'en Gūlün. Zhiduan was a son of Jingshou. In imperial records, his status is noted as a first-rank descendant by imperial decree. His clan affiliation and social status indicate he was a member of the royal kinship tied to the imperial family, with specific noble titles and marriage arrangements.

In the fifth year of the Tongzhi reign (1866), in September, Princess Rongshou, daughter of Prince Gong Yixiu and adopted daughter of the Xianfeng Emperor, was betrothed to Zhiduan. The engagement immediately led to marriage, with the wedding ceremony conducted according to ritual proprieties. The court bestowed upon them a coronet and awarded him a double-eyed feathered sash as symbols of favor, recognition, and status.

On the twelfth day of the tenth month in the tenth year of the Tongzhi reign (1871), Zhiduan passed away without leaving any offspring. After his death, there are no records in historical texts of any descendants, indicating that his lineage was not directly continued through heirs.

In the fifteenth year of the Guangxu reign (1889), the Kangxi Emperor issued an imperial edict appointing a maternal nephew as Zhiduan’s successor, demonstrating an official arrangement to preserve Zhiduan’s clan bloodline and family continuity. This imperial order addressed the issue of succession for Zhiduan, ensuring that in the absence of direct descendants, his noble status and familial lineage could be maintained through an appointed heir.
