Asa Lord Sheldon

Asa Lord Sheldon, born on September 29, 1781, and deceased on November 8, 1869, was the patriarch of the Sheldon family. His son was James Henry Sheldon, born on January 22, 1816, and who died on September 4, 1871. The grandson of Asa Lord Sheldon was Mary Cornelia Sheldon, born in 1842 in Martinsburg, New York, and who died on January 8, 1908. Mary Cornelia Sheldon’s son was John Sheldon Doud, born on November 10, 1870, in Boone, Iowa, and died on June 20, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, a meatpacking executive and investor in Illinois and Iowa stockyards who retired at age 36. John Sheldon Doud was married to Elivera Mathilda Carlson. Their daughter was Mamie Eisenhower, who became the First Lady of the United States from 1953 to 1961, and she was married to Dwight D. Eisenhower, who served as President of the United States during the same period.
