Introduction
Shi Rongyi is a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) for the 8th to 10th terms. Her father, Dr. Shi Ziqing, is a renowned patriotic entrepreneur in Hong Kong, and the family also includes three younger brothers: Shi Ronghuai, Shi Rongheng, and Shi Rongxin.
From 1985 onward, Shi Rongyi’s company established factories in Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Fujian; later, under the Western Development Strategy, she carried out development projects in Beihai (Guangxi), Hainan, Hubei, and Yunnan; and in response to the further opening of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Development Zone, she invested in building “Hong Kong Street” in Nanning.
In 1987, Shi Rongyi donated more than two million yuan to her hometown Jinjiang, establishing an education fund to support local teachers, outstanding students, and scholars to study and pursue advanced training abroad. Thereafter, she also funded higher education institutions, charitable organizations, hospitals, and various community organizations in other parts of the mainland as well as in Hong Kong.
In 2009 and 2010, Shi Rongyi and her father, Dr. Shi Ziqing, jointly financed the development of Hong Kong Baptist University and supported the university’s Institute of Contemporary China Studies in publishing scholarly journals. She is currently the Vice Chairman and President of Hong Kong Heng Tong Resources Group Limited and the Vice President of the Shanghai Jinjiang Chamber of Commerce.
