Introduction

Takehiko Hamaguchi (August 24, 1896 – October 5, 1976) was a Japanese banker who served as the president of Tokyo Bank (now MUFG Bank) and as the chairman of the National Bankers Association. He was born in Tokyo Prefecture and was the eldest son of Yūkō Hamaguchi. His mother was Natsu Hamaguchi. His younger brother was Iwao Hamaguchi.

He attended Tokyo Metropolitan First Middle School and First High School, and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Tokyo Imperial University in March 1921. After graduation, he joined the Bank of Japan in May 1921.

His career includes becoming the deputy head of the Osaka branch in July 1937 and the head of the Hiroshima branch in June 1940. In February 1941, he resigned from the Bank of Japan and in April became the executive director of Sanwa Trust Company. Later that year, in August, he was appointed auditor of Sanwa Bank, serving until April 1945.

After World War II, he was appointed president of Tokyo Bank in December 1946, a position he held until May 1949. In May 1949, he became chairman of the National Bankers Association, serving until June 1950.

His subsequent positions include serving as president of the Aichi Water Resources Public Corporation from October 1955 to September 1961, and as president of the International Telecommunication Co. (INTEL) from May 1962 until May 1964.

He was conferred the Order of the Sacred Treasure, First Class, on November 3, 1966. In May 1971, he became the chairman of the Japan Ceramic Society, a position he held until his death in October 1976.

In his private life, his eldest daughter, Sachiko, married Masamichi Funato (President of the Small and Medium Enterprise Finance Corporation, Vice Minister of Environment, and a government official). His second daughter, Shiku, married Iwao Shōda (Bank of Japan auditor and brother of Empress Michiko). His third daughter, Hiro, married Kiyoshi Kirizawa (emeritus professor at Seikei University).

He passed away on October 5, 1976, and is buried in Aoyama Reien (Aoyama Cemetery).
