Introduction

Bao Yongqin, born January 24, 1954, in Hong Kong. She attended Maryknoll College for high school in Hong Kong, later studied sociology at the University of Waterloo in Canada, and returned to Hong Kong after graduation. During her studies in 1973, she met Lau Luen-hung; after marriage, they共同 developed their business. They married in 1977, had a son and a daughter, and divorced in 1992.

She and Lau Luen-hung co-founded Aimeigo International Group, and in 1978 she became a founder and executive director. In the early years the company faced many difficulties, but through management it listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1983, with capital of 170 million yuan and about 2,000 employees. Subsequently she participated in acquisitions, restructurings and development of other companies, and continued to invest in stocks and property.

In terms of positions and public service, Bao Yongqin served as executive director of Hua Ren Property Group, executive director of Zhonghua Entertainment Property Group, executive director of Po Wah International Group, and vice-chairman of Angliss Group; she also served as the first female chair of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (1987–1988), vice-president of The Scout Association of Hong Kong (1988–1993), advisor to the Children’s Cancer Fund (1991–1993), vice-chairman of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (1992), and chairman of the Trust Fund (1991–1993). She was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1988.

Family-wise, her elder son Liu Mingwei and younger daughter Liu Xiurong’s ages at the mentioned points: the elder son married in London in 2001 and was reported to be 23 years old in 2004; the younger daughter was about 20 in the same year. Her marriage to her former husband lasted until the 1992 divorce.

Health and death: In 1992 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, underwent surgical removal of the tumor and lymph nodes, followed by six months of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and announced recovery in 1994. In 1995 she was diagnosed with lung cancer and went to the United States for a bone marrow transplant; the treatment caused significant side effects, she was discharged and regained some function, but liver and kidney function were impaired. In March 2002 she was hospitalized for a sore throat and diagnosed with acute renal failure, after which she underwent long-term dialysis and ultimately passed away. In terms of wealth, she owned several mansions and had a jewelry collection of hundreds of pieces.
