Introduction
Albrecht Wolfgang, Count of Schaumburg-Lippe (27 April 1699 – 24 September 1748), was a ruler of the County of Schaumburg-Lippe.
He was born in Bückeburg, the son of Friedrich Christian, Count of Schaumburg-Lippe, and his first wife, Countess Johanna Sophia of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. Johanna Sophia was born in 1673 and died in 1743. Albrecht Wolfgang succeeded his father as Count on 13 June 1728.
In 1743, during the War of the Austrian Succession, he aligned with Maria Theresa of Austria. Albrecht Wolfgang died at Bückeburg on 24 September 1748. Following his death, he was succeeded by his son, Wilhelm, as the Count of Schaumburg-Lippe.
Regarding marital relations, Albrecht Wolfgang was married twice. His first marriage was to Countess Margarete Gertrud of Oeynhausen on 30 October 1721 in London. Margarete Gertrud was born in 1701 and died in 1726; she was an illegitimate daughter of George I of Great Britain and his mistress Melusine von der Schulenburg, Duchess of Kendal. Together, they had two children:
- Count Georg Wilhelm, born in 1722, who died in 1742 at age 20 due to a duel.
- Count William, born in 1724, who lived until 1777.
His second marriage was to Princess Charlotte of Nassau-Siegen on 26 April 1730 at Varel. Charlotte was born in 1702 and died in 1785. She was the eldest daughter of Frederick William Adolf, Prince of Nassau-Siegen, and Landgravine Elisabeth Juliana Francisca of Hesse-Homburg. With Charlotte, Albrecht Wolfgang had one legitimate son named Johann Christoph.
In addition to his legitimate children, Albrecht Wolfgang had at least three illegitimate sons:
- August Wolfrath von Campen (1730–1779), who married Countess Wilhelmine von Anhalt, a morganatic daughter of Prince William Gustav of Anhalt-Dessau.
- Wolfradine von Campen (1773–1794), who married Count Adolf Friedrich Werner von der Schulenburg (1759–1825).
- Karl Wilhelm Wolfgang von Donop (1740–1813), with Charlotte Sophie of Aldenburg; another illegitimate son named Georg von Donop.
