Elizabeth Townshend was the daughter of Elizabeth Pelham, who was the granddaughter of Thomas Pelham, 1st Baron Pelham, an English politician and baron. Thomas Pelham-Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was the son of Thomas Pelham, 1st Baron Pelham, and served as Prime Minister of Great Britain. Elizabeth Pelham was born in 1681 and died in 1711, while Elizabeth Townshend died in 1785.
